Gina Lollobrigida ''Come September'' 1961 Silver Dress

 

Such a gorgeous dress! we used a sequin mesh fabric over strerch satin in silver and hand sewn gold lace appliques all over the bust, shoulder and down the back V neckline, back invisible zip closure. boning support and built in bra cups. the original dress was likely hand beaded but that was not within my buyers budget or my schedule so sequins worked out nicely as a more cost effective and less time intensive alternative. though a good bit of time was spent hand sewing lace.

My customer selected a slightly brighter pink lace and satin to recreate the dress worn by Betty Grable below, Sequin lace over satin and tulle mermaid skirt, organza petal bust detail, back zipper. boning support with bra cups built in. i even made the little faux rose choker necklace to go with it.

''A figure-hugging embellished gown worn by Marilyn Monroe while singing “After You Get What You Want You Don’t Want It” in the musical There’s No Business Like Show Business (20th Century, 1954). The flesh tone crepe gown has a netting overlay and is generously embellished with silver and pearlized bugle beads in a starburst and foliate motif, scattered rhinestones, bouquets of bugle beads top with sequins and seed beads, with a cluster of monofilament fiber with silver and glittering flowers to the waist-high left leg slit. A sheer pleated vanity panel is present to the slit and was added post production for alternate filming and publicity images for release in countries that forbade such a revealing costume.''

a custom version done in satin and beaded mesh to match my clients skintone, along with matching hat and hip detail. for this version i used fishing line to create the strings that fan out around the hat and hip detail.
