Restyed Vintage & New Dresses

Here is what i have been working on the past few weeks,



This blue & white vintage batik fabric dress is made in the same syle as Marilyn Monroe's cherry dress in ''The Mistfits" very 50s wrap front fitted waist and my favorite part the low back





This Orange bird print dress is made from new cotton fabric and its not really a vintage style but i loved the style and wanted to try it out, it has boning support and bra cups, smocked elastic back and 2 layers if ruffles.

This wiggle dress made from Egyptian print cotton with red pipping, fitted through the body with a ruffle hem, a low back with lacing, bra cups. This one sold the day i listed it :-)


This is a restyle of a vintage 80s/90s sundress. it was midcalf length, so i shortened it added the bust ruffle with pink lace and the bow, it has a smocked back. Now its very cute and now not so dated.



This is a vintage 90s mini dress it had some ugly shoulder/cap sleeves that i removed, love the hip pockets. i added the lace trim and tulle skirt. Now its a fun party dress :-)

Black & White Swimsuit

I designed this suit after seeing a vintage striped satin suit on ebay years ago. Someone saw a picture of the first one i made and i have since had a few requests for it, so here is the one i just finished. It has boning in the topside seams and soft foam cups, an elastic band across the back with hooks, i have hook and eye tape which is the best stuff ever so much easier than sewing each.
the shorts were modified from a vintage swimsuit pattern and have little darts under the butt to keep from gaping, i drafted the front skirt which gathers with drawstrings up the front. The whole top and bottom are lined in light weight cotton, i used a vintage zipper for the shorts and finished the top edge with a bias binding :-)

Junes Projects

I have been quite busy and i haven't been keeping up with posting my projects. So, there are a lot for this post.The second style of bridesmaids dress with the green silk below and,

The gold plaid dress with a veep V neckline with a cream satin bodice and cream lace, gold ribbon bow and cream trim, fully lined. I finally finished this one i got side tracked and forgot about it for a few weeks. It would make a great Holiday dress i think :-)

I tried out this vintage 60s Pacifica pattern 3030, Empire waist with wrap straps made out of new cotton stripe fabric and gold trim i think it turned out pretty cute, but next time i think i'll make the straps narrower as they go to the back they turned out wider than in the picture.


this was a top someone started sometime in the 60s that i restyled since pieces were missing, it's available at my Etsy shop Morningstar84


And finally this sun-suit inspired by 40's and 50's pinups, made a new Hawaiian print cotton, fully lined in cotton, the shorts have a little gathered skirt across the front, and the halter strap top has an elastic band that hooks on the side, just like a vintage bra/top i have from the 50's so it's pretty accurate though i did sewn in foam bra cups.

Bridesmaids Dresses

I have been working on bridesmaids dresses...
I made the brides dress a few months ago through Etsy and she asked if i would make dresses for her girls as well. I got the fabric from a great seller on Etsy Fallaloft she was super sweet, she has some lovely silk brocades.




on a side note i just ordered this pattern im pretty excited to try it out :-)
its very 90s but that's almost vintage now, which is weird.



and i decided to draw up my own measurement diagram

Cheetah Hearts

I wanted to try out a pattern i just drafted and i decided to do something a little different, this dress isn't exactly my style. I'm not an animal print person, but some people are. Its actually a pretty flattering dress on and with the boning support and bra cups you don't need a strapless bra. All in all im happy with the pattern only a few small tweaks and it should be just right.
I may make it again in a different fabric for myself :-)

Custom Bodice, Bolero and Dress

This has been a busy week for me, two custom orders, lots of people asking questions about custom orders and i've been helping my mom get her own Etsy shop up and running! These are two of the things i just finished a lace bolero made to match a dress i created previously made from vintage lace, lined in a soft netting to support it and a cotton bustier very cute! Blue and Purple Floral Sundress

Another Sundress i finished a while ago but didn't show you guys, another colorful, flowery summer dress, my favorite to make if you haven't already guessed. i sort of used a vintage 60s pattern for the basic shape and i draped the rest on my dress form, i rarely follow pattern directions (though i have an insane number of patterns, just ask my husband) i always want to change things when i get down to choosing a pattern to work with, having a dress form is SO helpful for my sewing pattern rebellion :-)
